FAQs

What is Modern Quilting?

Modern quilting is a really broad category that can mean different things to different people. It might mean that you use modern fabrics or that you do improvisational piecing or it could mean something totally different to you. Our group's focus is on modern quilting, which means that our events, speakers, and demos are oriented around exploring and learning more about modern quilting (perhaps including what it is!). That does NOT mean that you cannot bring in your traditional quilt or art quilt for show and tell, because we really are interested in everything that you are doing. It also doesn't mean that you have to be a "modern" quilter in order to join. If you are interested in our group, please feel free to come and check us out.

What is the Modern Quilt Guild?
The Modern Quilt Guild was started in Los Angeles in October, 2009.  Our local chapter, Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild was started in February of 2010.

Who can join?
This guild is open to anyone and everyone interested in quilting and modern quilting in particular.

Where do you meet?
We meet at the Redwood City Library.

What's a typical meeting like?
Meetings usually start with guild business.  The business portion of the meeting may cover discussing activities for upcoming meetings, guild projects, or technical aspects of running the guild.  Then we move into some show-and-tell.  Members like to bring projects - completed and in-progress - to share with the group.  Even if it's your first meeting feel free to bring something to share.  It's fun to get great feedback.  Some times a member will give a demonstration to the group.  Then we have time to sew - working on individual projects or guild projects.

What's it cost?
We ask that guild members pay dues of $40/year.  Not sure if this is up your alley?  Your first meeting is FREE, come and find out what we're all about!  : )
